Gold Coast Facts and Figures

The Gold Coast is famous for its sun, surf and sand. The Gold Coast City stretches along 57 kilometres of coastline. The Gold Coast spans across 1,400 square kilometres (approx. 540 square miles) featuring 70 kilometres of coastline from South Stradbroke Island to Rainbow Bay.

In 2002, the population was 438,000 making it the 6th largest city in Australia. The population is expected to increase to 700,000 residents by the year 2021.

Gold Coast City's climate is sub-tropical with some 287 days of sunshine annually.

Gold Coast Transport

The region is served aerially by Gold Coast International Airport, with frequent domestic services from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart, and International services from Japan and Asia and New Zealand. Brisbane's International Airport also provides links with the USA and Europe.

In 1998, research highlighted that Gold Coast City is the most biologically-diverse city in Australia. Its vegetation ranges from mountain rainforest to coastal wetlands and is home to more than:
